Benefits of VDC

Agility and flexibility

Agility and flexibility

You can dramatically reduce the time to provision new resources as it no longer takes days or weeks to set up a new physical server, provide more storage capacity to an application or modify physical networking. Policy-driven automation can further accelerate provisioning, enabling you to deploy resources in minutes.

Improved performance

Improved performance

You can optimize compute, storage, and networking for each application and workload without having to undertake physical changes to the infrastructure.

Significant cost-savings

Significant cost-savings

Your business will save hundreds of thousands of dollars as a VDC solution cuts up-front costs of purchasing and implementing an on-premises data center, in addition to costs of maintenance, consumption of real estate, power, and cooling; and hiring and training employees and other overhead costs. A VDC also gives can be consumed on a pay-as-you- go pricing model, i.e. you can add resources on demand and pay only for what you used. This flexibility allows more accurate prediction of operational expenses, and your organization can budget its financial resources more effectively.

Increased productivity

Increased productivity

Not only your IT staff who will be spared much of their daily and routine tasks of managing, upgrading and maintaining an on-premises data center, but other departments like procurement, accounting, finance, asset management, and others will be spared a lot too. This does not only boost business productivity, but also allows allocating efforts on enterprise-level for higher-value projects that can increase revenues and raise ROI.

Automated operations

Automated operations

Because resources are controlled by a software, you can automate routine tasks such as network provisioning, storage tiering, and the security responses; you can provision operating systems, storage, networking and applications without manual intervention. You can also create role-based policies that allow end-users to self-serve applications they need, depending on their level of privilege.

More security

More security

A VDC gives you the ability to secure your infrastructure by natively applying policies at VM level, shifting security from perimeter defense to one that is fine-grained and application & data centric. Additionally, micro-segmentation can be used to embed a firewall within every VM, greatly reducing the risk of a breach and minimizing the impact. You can also ensure security policies follow the applications rather than the other way around making security truly persistent.

Resiliency & high availability

Resiliency & high availability

A major benefit of a VDC as a single, virtualized pool of resources, is that if one server goes down, your workloads can be allocated to another server. Moreover, and with the right backup or disaster recovery (DR) solution, you can keep multiple copies of critical data available across your entire infrastructure at all times. If one piece of storage goes down, the backup is still available to users.

 • Healthcare sector.

What is a Virtual Data Center?

A VDC is a data center that provides the same capabilities and computing power of a physical data center but using cloud-based resources instead of physical ones. This gives organizations the ability to deploy additional IT infrastructure resources as required without the need of acquiring, deploying, configuring, or maintaining physical appliances.

How flexible is a VDC?

With a VDC, an organization can build and customize its own cloud-based data center that meets its business needs, managing and operating variety of virtual appliances such as virtual servers, virtual machines (VMs), virtual networks (VLANs & VXLANs), networking appliances, firewalls, load balancers; and others. A VDC provides flexible environment to manage, and organizations can have multiple VDC's under their control in different geographical locations.

How does a VDC work?

The VDC infrastructure components (storage, RAM, CPUs, networking … etc.) are abstracted from a group of interconnected servers that act as a single resource pool, and are then delivered to the client as an automated, policy-driven software. A VDC encompasses a variety of data center infrastructure components, mainly including compute virtualization, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Software-Defined Storage (SDS), and the management and automation software.
